Evaluation Form for In-Class Teaching Assignment

Name: Kate
Lesson: Hey, Hey Look At Me!

Musicianship (5 pts)
You did a really good job singing in your head voice. It was also a really good idea to play the song before you taught the song. This was the students could get a better idea of what the entire song is supposed to sound like. Also, before the class started singing, you would count to four indicating that there are four beats in the measure.

In tune, accurate pitch- You did an awesome job playing the piano and matching the pitch. It was easy for the class to match and would be easy for young students to match too!

Accurate rhythm- When you had the student tap the rhythm on the floor it was accurate. They could easily follow along and tap to the song.

Appropriate tempo- The tempo was good because it wasn’t too fast or too slow. This made it easy for the class to participate and follow along.

Phrasing- Your phrasing was excellent throughout the song. You played and sang the song at a good tempo so that students could breathe in the appropriate places and that allowed the song to flow together.

Expression- During your teaching, you had showed a lot of expression. You looked very interested in what you were teaching, and also sang with a lot of enthusiasm.

Leadership (10 pts)
You did a great job interacting with the students. You did not just play the piano; you got down on the floor and sang with them.

Body language- Good body language! You seemed very interested in what you were teaching and looked enthusiastic.

Facial expression- Great facial expressions! You looked excited and interested in teaching the song.

Voice tone and volume- As you were teaching, your voice was nice and loud so students could hear and follow alone. Also you changed your voice instead of talking in monotone.

Eye contact- You did a really good job making eye contact with the students. This results in children behaving and wanting to participate more in class.

Intensity (energy)- Throughout your lesson, you kept your energy high and continued to be enthusiastic. This helps children want to stay involved and gets them excited about learning!

Preparation (15 pts)
You were very well prepared. You knew what you were talking about and had all materials ready to go!
Knowledge of music- You knew the correct melody of the song, and demonstrated it by playing the piano.

Knowledge of plan- Throughout the lesson, you knew what came next and kept a good, consistent flow.

Written plan- I did not see your written plan, but from your watching your teaching, everything flowed really well!

Instruments/equipment ready- There was no instruments used during this teaching.

Recordings/charts/materials ready- Everything was well prepared and ready to go. The music boards were already pre-drawn and ready for the class to look at. Also, all the motions to the dance were well thought out.

Delivery of Instruction (20 pts)
Throughout your entire lesson, you remained excited and energetic. It is very important for students to see this in their teacher because they will also become excited to learn. You did a really good job teaching the song and each new part of the lesson built on the previous part. You kept the class’ attention and closely interacted with the students. Throughout the lesson, you kept the class engaged by asking questions and having them participate in making up new parts of the song (jumping and smiling).

Motivation, capturing attention- Because of your awesome enthusiasm in teaching the song, you audience listened intently and followed a long!

Sequencing of steps- All of the steps in your lesson flowed very well together and built upon each other so that the students could easily follow.

Verbal instructions- Your verbal instructions were clear and to the point. Your voice was nice and loud and you sounded excited!

Questioning- You did a great job asking the class questions and really getting them involved in the lesson.

Pace of lesson, flow, transition- The flow, pace, and transition during your lesson was excellent. There were no noticeable pauses etc. Also the lesson was very smooth because you were well prepared and the lesson was put together very well!

Flexibility (ability to diagnose and adjust) - Your original plan was to play the piano, but when one of the students in the class didn’t have a partner, you quickly adapted and dropped playing the piano. Instead, you participated as the person’s partner and just sang along instead! This was really good thinking and helped include all of the students in the classroom.

Feedback to the learners- The only improvement that I would make in this section would to be compliment students on specific skills that they are doing great (Jimmy, great job singing in tune). This will help encourage students to want to continue to participate in the lesson.

Continuity/focus of lesson- During your lesson, you stayed on task and focused. The lesson didn’t drift off to another point. You job was to teach the song and you did a great job!

Closure- After the song was taught with the dance moves, you pulled the class back together and reviewed what they had learned today. You asked them questions, and prompted them appropriately when they needed it.
