When writing the lesson plan and figuring out what I was going to teach the class I think I did a good job getting that all ready. I also think I did best on including the class and having class participation. To prepare for this I really just used different ideas I had seen being done in class. The class and classroom setting was ready. I was not completely ready myself. The song I sang I thought I did a pretty good job with the pitch and had a good tempo. The only thing I felt I did not do well was in the part of the song that says, “tip-toe fine”, the first time I did not have the pitch high enough. For my body language I was not overly excited and it may have seemed as I was a little tight and nervous, which I was. I kept good eye contact with the students throughout the lesson. The volume of my voice was loud enough for the students to hear, but the tone could have been a little more up-beat and not so much the same tone. I knew the music for the song and the words. The lesson may have gone a little better if I either picked a song I knew, or even if I would have prepared more for my lesson. At the beginning it was hard to get the students motivated, but once they were able to get involved and being creative themselves they seemed a little more motivated. The lesson went fairly well in sequence order. Like I said earlier there were a few steps left out, but the steps I remembered during the lesson were in order. I made sure I gave them plenty of time to answer the question I asked and if they couldn’t get it I would give them a hint and not give them the complete answer. The closure of my song was a little rough. I asked them what I wanted, but I do not think it seemed very smooth. When the students did answer I made sure I praised them and told them they were right. Overall, for the musicianship I would give myself a 4 because of the mistake with pitch. For leadership I would also give myself a 13 because I was not fully prepared to give my lesson plan. Then for delivery of instruction I would give myself a 19 because I felt in this section I completed everything to its full ability. The only thing I would have changed would have been to get of the focus of the lesson across in a way that the students were sure what I was trying to teach. For total points I would give 45/50.

As I watched Emilie teach her lesson I think over all she did a really nice job. When singing the song she was in tune and her pitch was accurate. When having the children tap the beat with her she had great tempo. The song was easy for students to learn, it kept there attention. For musicianship I would give Emilie a 5. She has a great a nice singing voice and her tone was right on with the music. Her eye contact with her students was great! She could of used a little more energy during the lesson so for this I will give her a 9. I could tell that when presenting her lesson she had knowledge of music and she knew her lesson plan. There was a few spots I saw her looking at the music and I think that if she had picked a song she was familiar with she would have been more prepared when it came to the song. I could tell she put a lot of effort into the lesson. I would give her a 14 in this category of preparation. Her overall delivery of her lesson was great! She knew what she was talking about and new the focus of the lesson she was teaching. She was loud for all the students to hear her and everything just flowed together. I would give her a 20 for her delivery. So overall I would give her a 48/50, because she did a great job getting her students active in the lesson and presenting the lesson to her class!

Evaluation of Emilie’s Lesson- By: Samantha Byers
When evaluating Emilie’s music lesson I found many positive qualities throughout, making it a very good lesson. As with all lessons, I also felt there were area’s in which Emilie could improve upon within her lesson. First of all, when evaluating Emilie’s musicianship, I felt she did an overall great job. Specifically, Emilie sang in tune with the appropriate pitch, rhythm and tempo. I felt that Emilie could however improve on her expression based on the fact that some of the time her eyes were away from her students.
Next, when evaluating Emilie’s leadership skills I felt that her voice and volume were good and she was able to keep her students attention. However, I felt that Emilie could have done a better job of keeping eye contact with her students and her body language could have been a little more direct. The next area in evaluating Emilie was in her preparation of the lesson. I felt that Emilie was prepared in that she had her equipment ready and did a good job in using the board to help her deliver her lesson. However, I felt that because Emilie read off of her paper a few times throughout the lesson that she could have had better knowledge of her song and lesson plan. I am not sure if this was just due to nerves, but there needed to be more eye contact.
When actually evaluating Emilie’s delivery of her instructions I felt she did great when capturing the attention of her students and keeping them involved throughout. A way in which she did this was Emilie asked a good amount of questions that kept the students actively involved in the lesson, and she was able to provide ample flexibility towards her students. When giving verbal instructions, I felt that Emilie could have been a little more concise, however her feedback to the students was helpful. Finally, I felt the transitions and the overall flow of the lesson went well and the students seemed to enjoy and understand the lesson.
Overall, if I was to grade Emilie on her lesson, I would give her 42 out of 50 points.
