I feel that the thing I did the best was making sure that the students had the correct understanding of what I was teaching them. I made sure that the objectives were clear. I was sure to hit on the points that tested what I was teaching them and what they should have been learning. I do not think I did a great job as far as the singing went, and also in terms of the order I did certain tasks in. I realize now that I had asked to the students to say their classmates names when we had not yet went over them. We then had to go back and have everyone say their names and then I tested them again after that. I also realize I did not sing the song in an accurate pitch. If I were given another chance to do this again, I would be sure to practice in front of more people before I performed because I felt as though I forgot exactly the order I wanted to do things in, and I feel like this is because I had only been used to practicing with a few others around. I would also make sure that I make more eye contact with my students so that they did not know I was nervous. I do not feel that I had any problems with writing the lesson plan it was just when I went to perform it. I would try to make sure that I had much more energy and enthusiasm. I would also make sure that I make better use of transitions.

I think I would give myself about a 44 out of 50.

Melanie will be a good teacher! However, I can tell that she was nervous and you never want your class to know that. Maybe practicing in front of a larger audience before teaching the lesson to the class would have been helpful. She did a really good job on keeping the steady beat throughout the entire lesson by clapping her side. With kindergartners you have to be very enthusiastic and cheerful. I think Melanie was to nervous to concentrate on being upbeat. However, to keep very small children's attention the song has to be cheerful and happy. Next time I would recommend that she should sing the song in a higher pitch. When she jumped in the middle of the circle when the children were passing the rock it seemed to be a little confusing to the children. Her back was facing half of the children. I am not sure if she should have sat in the middle but their needed to be some sort of modification in that part of her lesson. Melanie knew her lesson well. It is a lot harder to teach a lesson than to write it. It seemed like she really knew her lesson on paper but when it came to the teaching part it was more difficult. I feel that the next time she teaches will be more comfortable for her and she will excel. She gave great verbal instructions throughout the entire lesson. She made sure that the students knew what the lesson was about: directions (right), knowing the student's names. One recommendation: she should have had the children say their names first before they were asked to say the person to their rights name. I liked that she brought in a prop (a rock) for the children to use in their activity. Great idea for kindergarten!!

Though i could sense a little nervousness in your voice in the beginning of the lesson, i thought you did a great job of overcoming that nervousness and acting confident. I really like how creative your song was and how it incorporated so many different lessons such as having the student's learn each others names, multitasking by having the students pass the rock and keep a steady beat, and hoe you made sure each student stayed active in the lesson. You had the student's repeat the song back to you several times which i thought was really good because everyone seemed to learn the song quickly. Though you asked the students to say their names when you hadn't really asked that in the beginning of the lesson, i thought you did a excellent job of making sure everyone knew each others name at the end of the lesson by having each student go in the middle of the circle. The only recommendation i would really stress is trying to put more of a high pitch in your voice to emphasize your excitement. Your voice seems to be naturally low and smooth which is awesome, but younger children seem to respond better to high pitches because it expressed eagerness and excitement. You are going to be a great teacher though Melanie your confidence and knowledge shines through when you are teaching.

I would give you a 49/50. Your confidence would grab the attention of elementary student's and your creative lesson would keep them engaged and intrigued.

I really like your energy, Melanie. It's at a high level throughout the process. Good for you. One thing to remind yourself when you teach young children is that at the beginning (especially for early primary graders) you want to eliminate your verbal instruction as much as possible. Don't give too many instructions all at once. Also, make sure at the end review what you want them to learn (in addition to music, what's the concept/skill you want the students to get?) Make sure you include the information at your closure! You can also try when you want the students to remember each other's names, have them sing/say their names with the steady beat through passing the rock. It's easier for them to engage in a game like that to learn their names.
I can tell from your presentation you are well prepared! Good for you! For the activity, I praise that you were able to keep the students well engaged in the entire lesson. That's really nice!
For the singing, I would like to remind you that for young children, they will not be able to sing that low. So, even though you can't sing high, you will have to try to learn to sing using your head voice. Otherwise, it will be difficult for the kids to sing along with you (they will try to imitate their teacher's voice). So, make sure you learn to sing "higher" using your head voice.
Also, you did not sing the song in tune. It's not an easy song to learn; you did get the rhythm correct but not the tune. Next time, make sure you have something (music file) you can practice on again and again until you get it in tune.
